Conscious & responsible

We have a responsibility to look after our planet - both now and for future generations. A vital aspect of our brand’s ethos and values is ensuring we have ethical and high environmental standards throughout the manufacturing processes. I, personally, want to achieve the very best product for our customers whilst using quality materials that are kind to our environment, ethically sourced and produced sustainably - ensuring all our people, our world and our climate are valued and treated with respect and integrity.

SUSTAINABILITY

For the planet

We're focused on making the best manufacturing choices possible, reducing supply chain wastage, recycling wherever possible, minimising carbon emissions and greenifying our processes to minimise our footprint.

We always choose, where we can, superior materials with the least environmental impact like responsibly sourced and certified Gold Rated leather and OEKO-TEX® certified organic bamboo. We’re also keeping a very close eye on sustainable material advancements that will comply with strict global compliance policies.

We’ve recently redesigned our packaging to include shoe boxes made from recycled cardboard, free from plastic with a recycled handle (to double as a carry bag!). Our new branded satchels are made from recycled plastic and have a 2nd adhesive strip so they can be re-used (or recycled).  We also re-use all packaging received into our dispatch and dispose of all our waste responsibly.

We've partnered with delivery providers that are carbon neutral and environmentally conscious. To ensure deliveries are carbon neutral, they reduce emissions from operations where possible, and compensate for the remaining emissions by investing in carbon offset projects.

Certified organic bamboo

Our OEKO-TEX® organic bamboo products are certified by EcoCert, which ensures a product from renewable resources, and eco-friendly manufacturing.

Certified raw materials

Our responsibly sourced Gold Rated leather is from tanneries who use less energy, less water, and more eco-friendly chemicals (read more below).

Carbon neutral shipping

Our main shipping provider's service is recognised as carbon neutral. This means they offset 100% of delivery emissions by purchasing carbon credits.

Green shoe boxes

Our newer shoes boxes are crafted from 100% recycled cardboard and have a recycled cord handle (doubling as a carry bag!).  All boxes are fully recyclable.

Ditching plastic packaging

We’re currently transitioning our packaging to divert plastic from landfill, and embracing recycled boxes and mailing satchels (which can be re-used for returns, or recycled again!)

Reduce waste

Our suppliers carefully consider how to treat all our shoe materials to minimise waste at each step of manufacturing. We've also eliminated any unnecessary plastic wrapping or shipping materials.

Stock surplus

We condemn the destruction of end-of-life or seconds stock. Our seconds shoes are discounted and sold online, while end-of-life stock is donated to various charity partners or recycled.

Eco-materials

We constantly monitor tech developments in sustainable materials, and watch for real-world  and tough-work test results. Watch this space!

FOR THE GOOD OF ALL

Gold rated leather

Gold rated leather

Touchable, high quality leather is one of our core ingredients for durable, safe and gorgeous shoes. But, we're also for responsible tanning processes that won't burden the environment. We ensure all our leathers are sourced from tanneries that have been audited and received the best-in-class Gold Leather Rating by the Leather Working Group (LWG).

LWG is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assessing and certifying environmental compliance across the leather supply chain with the goal of minimising eco-impact. A gold rating means the tanneries supplying our shoe leather use less energy, less water, less and more eco-friendly chemicals, as well as taking care of waste and effluent in a responsible way.

ETHICAL MANUFACTURING

Our factories

We've specifically selected our dedicated, family run factories in China for their fair work and ethical practices. Our founder, Stacey, visits frequently and has built a close working relationship with their teams. This has created two-way trust, and allowed for collaboration on processes which also minimise environmental impacts - such as using more environmentally friendly materials and practices, while reducing materials and packaging waste.

Our third party Australian auditors, BSI Group, also regularly visit our factories to ensure standards compliance, plus fair conditions and respectful treatment of staff. We're proud to partner with suppliers that pay their staff above the local average wage, offer voluntary paid overtime, provide excellent training, clean and safe working environments and good career advancement opportunities.

SUPPLY CHAIN CHECKS

Keeping suppliers accountable

amfori trade with purpose

The Business Social Compliance Initiative (conducted by AMFORI) is a leading supply chain management system that supports companies (and their factories) to drive social compliance and improvements. AMFORI’s mission is “trade with purpose” - where all trade delivers social, environmental and economic benefits for everyone.

Sedex is one of the world’s leading ethical trade membership organisation, working with businesses to improve working conditions in global supply chains.  Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) assesses a site based on their organisation’s standards of labour, health and safety, environment and business ethics.

We like to work with suppliers and factories who independently source these external audits on a regular basis. This audit covers loads of super important aspects from working conditions and hours to health and social facilities. She wear does not accept, under any circumstances: child labour, unsafe working conditions, illegal conduct, corruption, excessive work hours, discrimination, forced labour of any kind or inhumane treatment.
